Proved to be a boon for the poor
In March this year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced PMGKAY under the Prime Minister’s Poor Welfare Package. Initially under PMGKAY, there was a provision of giving 5 kg of grain (wheat / rice) to every ration card holder and 1 kg of pulses to each ration card holder family for April, May and June every month. Later it was increased by 5 months to 30 November.
It is being told that the cost of this scheme of distribution of free food grains has been borne by the Central Government and this scheme has proved to be a boon for the poor of the country during the Corona period.
