On August 11, the Ajni–Pune Vande Bharat Express will begin its run. It’s not just another addition to the fleet — at around 880 km, this is the longest Vande Bharat journey in the country so far, offering 590 seats and a promise of same-day travel between the two cities.
A Route With Plenty in Between
Starting from Ajni in the morning, the train makes its way through Wardha, Akola, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar and a handful of other stops before rolling into Pune in the evening. It’s a full twelve-hour stretch each way — leave at 9:50 am from Ajni and you’ll reach Pune around 9:50 pm. Coming back, it’s a 6:25 am departure with arrival back in Ajni by early evening.
Flag-Off First, Boarding Next
The formal launch will happen a day earlier, on August 10, when the Prime Minister gives the virtual signal. Passengers board for the first time the next morning. The train runs with eight coaches, all seating — a mix of standard AC chair cars and executive class seats. No sleepers, since this service is meant for daylight travel. Fares hover around ₹1,500 for the chair cars and double that for executive class.
Comfort and Speed Together
Inside, it’s the Vande Bharat you’d expect — wide windows, firm seats, bright interiors, onboard Wi-Fi, and the now-standard bio-vac toilets. CCTV cameras and automatic doors add to the safety checklist. Timings are designed to trim travel time compared to older services, making the ride less about endurance and more about getting there comfortably.
Why People Are Looking Forward to It
For festival-season travellers, this service lands at just the right time. Bus fares spike, flights sell out — and a same-day train option with steady pricing is hard to ignore. As one regular Wardha commuter put it while buying his ticket, “If I can sit comfortably and still get home the same day, why would I take the bus?”
