PM Modi Vande Bharat launch: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off four new Vande Bharat Express trains from his parliamentary constituency Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. He inaugurated the new trains on the Varanasi-Khajuraho, Lucknow-Saharanpur, Firozpur-Delhi, and Ernakulam-Bengaluru routes. Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister said these Vande Bharat trains will “enhance connectivity and provide greater convenience” for citizens.
In his address in Varanasi, PM Modi said, “Trains like Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, and Amrit Bharat are laying the foundation for a new generation of Indian Railways.” He said infrastructure is a “key factor” in the economic growth of developed countries, and India is also “rapidly progressing” on the path of development.
The Banaras-Khajuraho Vande Bharat
The central government said in an official statement that the Banaras-Khajuraho Vande Bharat train will provide direct connectivity on this route and save approximately two hours and 40 minutes compared to the currently operating special trains.
The statement said that the train will connect “some of India’s most important religious and cultural destinations,” including Varanasi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, and Khajuraho. It added that “this connectivity will not only boost religious and cultural tourism, but will also provide pilgrims and travelers with a fast, modern, and comfortable journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Khajuraho.”
Lucknow-Saharanpur Vande Bharat
The central government stated that the Lucknow-Saharanpur Vande Bharat train will complete the journey in approximately seven hours and 45 minutes, saving approximately one hour in travel time.
The statement said that the train will “significantly benefit” passengers from Lucknow, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Bijnor, and Saharanpur and will also improve access to the holy city of Haridwar via Roorkee.
“This service will make travel between cities in the central and western parts of Uttar Pradesh faster and easier, improving both connectivity and regional development,” a government statement said.
Ferozepur-Delhi Vande Bharat
The Firozpur-Delhi Vande Bharat will be the fastest train on this route and will complete the journey in six hours and 40 minutes. The central government said it will strengthen connectivity between Delhi and major cities in Punjab, including Firozpur, Bathinda, and Patiala.
“This train is expected to boost trade, tourism, and employment opportunities, contribute to the socio-economic development of border areas, and promote better integration with national markets.”
Ernakulam-Bengaluru Vande Bharat
The Ernakulam-Bengaluru Vande Bharat train service will reduce travel time by more than two hours, completing the journey in 8 hours and 40 minutes. The central government said it will connect major IT and commercial hubs and provide “faster and more comfortable” travel options to professionals, students and tourists.
The central government further said that “the route will boost economic activities and tourism between Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, thereby promoting regional development and cooperation.”
