Delhi News: Amidst disruptions in LPG supply, the Delhi government’s Department of Food, Supplies, and Consumer Affairs has stated that, as a relief measure, migrant workers can obtain a 5-kilogram cylinder by presenting a valid identity card, even without a regular LPG connection.
During a press conference on Friday, the department stated that migrant workers can obtain a 5-kilogram LPG cylinder by presenting their Aadhaar card and an identity card. Furthermore, it affirmed that there is no energy crisis of any kind in Delhi. LPG, PNG, petrol, and diesel are available in adequate quantities. A control room has been established to monitor the LPG situation and to receive complaints and inquiries.
During a press conference, the Department’s Additional Commissioner, Arun Kumar Jha, stated that there are approximately 5.6 million domestic LPG connections in Delhi. In light of this, people have been urged to ensure that their connections are registered under the correct category to prevent any potential misuse.
Switch to PNG Connections
The Department stated that the government is placing a strong emphasis on the expansion of PNG services. Residents in areas where PNG connections are available should switch from LPG to PNG. Failure to do so could adversely affect their LPG connections. Meanwhile, to further promote the usage of PNG, the installation targets have been increased. Previously, approximately 1,000 connections were being added; the current target has now been raised to 3,000.
27 Cases Registered for Hoarding
On Thursday, approximately 100 LPG cylinders were seized from Alipur and Bawana. Officials stated that the public can also share information regarding illegal activities with the Delhi Police. The Intelligence Department is also actively working on this matter. In connection with hoarding, 27 cases have been registered.
Crowding in Some Areas Due to Booking Backlog
The department reported that the demand for gas has surged, with LPG bookings rising to reach 200,000 per day. On April 1, bookings stood at 111,000—a figure lower than the normal daily average of 160,000. Officials noted that reports have been received of long queues for gas forming in certain localities due to the backlog in bookings.
People Urged to Report Black Marketeers
The department has stated that the public can lodge complaints against hoarders and black marketeers by calling 011-23379836 and 8383824659. These numbers will remain operational from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Immediate action will be taken upon receipt of a complaint. The identities of those providing information will be kept confidential.
