8th Pay Commission Latest Update: The Central Government has taken a major decision regarding the 8th Pay Commission. The government has extended the deadline for submitting memoranda (proposals) to the Commission to May 31, 2026. This decision by the government has brought relief to lakhs of central government employees, pensioners, and employee associations, who now have a little more time to formulate their demands and suggestions. Previously, this deadline was set for April 30, 2026.

This information was announced by the Commission just one day prior to the original deadline. Following this decision, the official website of the 8th Pay Commission now states: “The final date for submitting responses is May 31, 2026 (Sunday). All responses must be submitted exclusively through the link provided above. Paper copies, hard copies, PDFs, or emails containing memoranda will not be accepted by the Commission.”
Why Was the Deadline Extended?
The government decided to extend the deadline because several employee associations and unions had been demanding it. They argued that additional time was required to prepare detailed memorandums regarding salaries, allowances, and service conditions. Consequently, the government decided to extend the deadline by one month to ensure that all stakeholders could present their views to the Commission more effectively.
Furthermore, the Pay Commission is holding consultations with various employee associations and organizations in Delhi from April 28 to April 30. Yesterday, it held a meeting with the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery) (NCJCM) (Staff Side) to understand their demands and proposed suggestions; following this meeting, the deadline was extended today.
It is worth noting that a three-day meeting of the 8th Pay Commission is currently underway. This meeting commenced today. During the meeting, several significant decisions will be taken regarding issues concerning employees and the 8th Pay Scale.
