Rail travel between Bengaluru and Goa is soon going to become even more convenient. According to reports, a new Vande Bharat Express (semi-high-speed train) is set to begin operating between these two popular destinations. This new train will cover the journey from Bengaluru to Goa in approximately 13 hours. The South Western Railway (SWR) has submitted its report to the Railway Board. The official schedule for the new Vande Bharat Express will be announced once the Board approves the proposal.
Possible Route and Timings
According to the South Western Railway’s tentative timetable, this train’s route will pass through the Mangaluru Railway Zone.
Bengaluru to Goa: This train will depart from Yeshwantpur station in Bengaluru at 6:05 am and arrive in Madgaon, Goa at 7:15 pm.
Return journey (Goa to Bengaluru): On the return journey, this train will depart from Madgaon at 5:30 am and arrive in Yeshwantpur at 6:40 pm.
Route: As per the proposal, this train will proceed via the Padil bypass, skipping Mangaluru Junction and Mangaluru Central stations.
Speed Increasing Proposal
To reduce travel time, the Railway Department has also proposed increasing train speeds on certain sections.
Chikka Banavara to Hassan: Train speeds on this section are proposed to be increased from 110 km/h to 130 km/h.
Sakleshpur-Subramanya Road Ghat Section: In this hilly area, train speeds have been proposed to be increased from 30 km/h to 40 km/h.
Awaiting Railway Board Approval
According to an NDTV report, a senior SWR official stated that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced the plan for this Vande Bharat service during a recent meeting. Following the announcement, the Railway Ministry sought a formal proposal, which was submitted to the Railway Board about 20 days ago. A senior Railway Board official confirmed that the proposal is currently under discussion. Operating the service on this route will require two trainsets (racks), and the service can only be launched once both racks are available.
Trial Runs Before Launch
The Railways will conduct trial runs on this route before finalizing a final timetable. According to SWR, these trials will use two Vande Bharat racks equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems. Before the trials can begin, the overhead electrical equipment (OHE) system on the recently electrified Hassan-Thokur (Mangaluru) section must be certified and commissioned.
