Now, if you cancel your flight ticket within 48 hours of booking, you will not be charged any extra fee. This facility is being provided under new regulations by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which have been made more transparent in the interest of passengers. The DGCA has taken this step in view of passenger complaints and problems related to delays in ticket refunds.
According to the DGCA’s newly revised regulations, if the ticket is booked directly from the airline’s website, passengers can cancel their ticket within 48 hours of booking without any extra charge. Furthermore, if there is a name error on the ticket and the passenger corrects it within 24 hours, no charges will be levied. This facility applies exclusively to passengers booking online.
Refund Process for Bookings Through Agents or Portals
If the ticket was purchased through a travel agent or online portal, the airline will be responsible for the refund. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed airlines to process all refunds within 14 working days. This means that passengers will no longer have to wait long, and the refund process will be completely digital and transparent.
Easy Refunds for Medical Emergencies
The new rules also clarify that if a passenger cancels their flight due to a medical emergency, they will not face any difficulties in obtaining a refund. The DGCA made this change following complaints regarding airline ticket refunds and problems with IndiGo flights in December 2025.
