Aadhaar Update: Now Change Your Address in Your Aadhaar Card Without Address Proof: Learn the Process in Simple Steps

Aadhaar Update: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has provided an option to change or update the address on an Aadhaar card. Now, Aadhaar holders can update their address even without submitting any documents. Previously, it was mandatory to provide proof of the new address for this purpose.

UIDAI has introduced a convenient facility that allows individuals to update their address online with the consent of the Head of Family (HoF). This feature is particularly useful for relatives—such as children, spouses, and parents—who do not possess an address proof in their own name.

To change an address, you may submit a ‘Proof of Relationship’ document—such as a Ration Card, Marksheet, Marriage Certificate, or Passport—that clearly lists the names of both the applicant and the HoF, along with their relationship. Additionally, verification via an OTP sent to the HoF will be mandatory. In the absence of such a document, the HoF may also submit a self-declaration form.

According to UIDAI, this facility will prove beneficial for millions of people as they relocate to different cities. Any individual aged 18 years or older can serve as a Head of Family (HoF) and share their address with their relatives.

Simple Steps to Update Address on the Aadhaar Card:

  • Visit the ‘My Aadhaar’ portal: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
    Select the new option for updating your address.
  • Enter the HoF’s Aadhaar number (their other personal details will not be displayed).
  • Upload a document serving as proof of your relationship.
  • Submit the applicable fee.
  • Upon successful payment, you will receive an SRN (Service Request Number), and an SMS notification will be sent to the HoF.
  • The HoF must log in and approve the request within 30 days.

If the HoF fails to either accept or reject the request—or explicitly declines it—within the 30-day window, your request will be closed, and you will be notified via SMS. Please note that in such a scenario, the fee paid will not be refunded.
