Release dates: Hollywood films confirmed to hit Indian theatres in 2021

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus in 2020, several production houses had to postpone the release of their big-ticket films. But, with Indian theatres now allowed to operate at 100 per cent occupancy, producers are looking at the best dates to release their movies. Here’s a confirmed list of Hollywood movies that are set to have a theatrical release in India in 2021.

Monster Hunter – February 5

The fantasy movie, based on video game developer and publisher Capcom’s popular franchise of the same name, stars Milla Jovovich in the lead role. It is directed and written by Paul WS Anderson. During an interaction with indianexpress.com, Anderson promised a breathtaking big-screen experience for anybody who chooses to go watch Monster Hunter in theatres. He said, “I think we’ve created a whole new world to immerse an audience. And our world is undergoing such challenges now, I think to be immersed in a different world for a couple of hours as a kind of fun thing to offer people.” (Photo: Monster Hunter/Instagram)

Nomadland – February 19

Chloé Zhao’s film Nomadland, starring Frances McDormand, follows the story of Fern (McDormand) who becomes a modern-day nomad after the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada. The film has a perfect 100 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes.(Photo: Searchlight Pictures)

Tom and Jerry – February 19

The Tim Story directorial stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost, and Ken Jeong. The story revolves around Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse getting thrown out of their home and relocating to a fancy New York hotel where Moretz’s character is an employee who will lose her job if she doesn’t evict Jerry. The cat-and-mouse chase in the movie’s trailer was a good dose of nostalgia for fans of Tom and Jerry cartoons. (Photo: Tom and Jerry/Instagram)

Raya and the Last Dragon – March 5

The animated film is set in a fantasy world where evil has turned up again after 100s of years, and it is only the last remaining dragon which can stop it. The official description of the movie reads, “A lone warrior, Raya, must track down the legendary last dragon to stop an evil force that has returned after 500 years to once again threaten her homeworld, Kumandra.” (Photo: Raya and the Last Dragon/Instagram)

Godzilla vs Kong – March 26

The Alexander Skarsgård and Millie Bobby Brown-starrer is helmed by Adam Wingard. The film brings together two of the most popular monsters in cinema: Godzilla and King Kong. In the trailer, Kong has been projected as a mother figure who has vowed to protect a human child after forging an unlikely, unfathomable bond with her. Godzilla is the big bad guy who wants to destroy the planet. Now, who among the two will finally win the battle is what forms the narrative of the movie.
