Aadhaar card has become the most important document in India. From government schemes to accessing banking services.. This card is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which acts as a proof of ID for every task.
But Aadhaar details should be updated from time to time with correct details. Especially when the phone number linked with Aadhaar card changes, the new number needs to be updated. It is enough to follow simple steps for this. Let’s find out.
Enrollment Center : Phone number linked to Aadhaar cannot be changed online. For this one has to visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Center or Aadhaar Seva Kendra and complete the process manually. Go to the UIDAI website (uidai.gov.in) and click on “Locate Enrollment Center”.
Go to the Aadhaar center and get the necessary form to change the phone number. Fill all the details asked in it. After completing the form, it should be submitted to the Aadhaar Help Executive. Either identity proof, address proof, or existing Aadhaar card has to be submitted as a supporting document. Also a fee of Rs.50 should be paid.
Update Request Number (URN) : After paying the fee Aadhaar Help Executive will provide an Update Request Number (URN) slip. This URN is required to track mobile number update status. To track it visit UIDAI official website myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
Go to ‘Check Enrollment’ section and enter URN along with other required details. That’s it, the mobile number update request current status will be displayed on the screen. Normally the mobile number will be updated within 90 days. Until then Aadhaar services may be available with old mobile phone number which is already linked.
The rules are these.. : According to UIDAI rules.. Aadhaar details should be updated once in ten years. Otherwise the card will be invalid. Due to this, the benefits of the schemes cannot be availed. Also, if there are any changes in the details provided while taking the Aadhaar card, the relevant information must be updated at the Aadhaar Center.
