Aadhaar Card Update: Do you want to update your child’s Aadhaar card? But there is no need to worry. Biometric update is very important to ensure that the child’s details are correct. Now UIDAI has made this process even easier.
Aadhaar Card Update: UIDAI has waived the biometric update fee for children for one year. From 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026, children aged 7 to 15 years can get their biometrics updated free of cost. Parents can get their biometrics updated at their nearest authorised Aadhaar enrolment centre. All they need to do is bring their child’s Aadhaar number. The complete list of these centres is available on the Bhuvan Aadhaar portal.
UIDAI is now working with a company called BIT, a behavioral insights company, to simplify the mandatory biometric update process for children. At two key milestones, at the age of 5 and 15, fingerprints, iris scan and photograph have to be taken again.
UIDAI has observed that many families are delaying the update. Some are unaware of the procedure, some do not have time, and some are not clear on how to do it. Due to this, children are facing difficulties while using Aadhaar-based services.
BIT is working with UIDAI to understand these situations. It will identify the points that confuse parents and provide clear information with reminders and easy instructions. This will make the process easy to complete without stress. The decision to waive the fee will remove the financial burden on parents. At the same time, it will encourage them to complete the mandatory biometric update on time.
For updating child biometrics, check if your child is between 7 and 15 years of age. They can get their biometrics updated free of cost till 30 September 2026. Check the details of the nearest centre on the Bhuvan Aadhaar portal or UIDAI website. Just bring the child’s Aadhaar number. Additional documents are required only if other details like date of birth are changed.
You should take your children with you. There, new fingerprints, iris scan and photograph will be taken. Once the process is complete, you will be given an update request number. Through this, you can check the status on the UIDAI website. After the process is complete, you can download the updated Aadhaar card through the UIDAI portal or the mAadhaar app.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvanesh Kumar said that by integrating behavioral insights with digital systems, families will be able to access services more easily. He said this is a great step towards ensuring that children’s Aadhaar details are accurate. BIT CEO Rachel Coyle said that evidence-driven behavioral tools will help in timely biometric updates and the benefits of Aadhaar-based services for children will continue indefinitely.
It is very important to update the child’s biometrics on time. School admissions, government schemes, scholarships, and other welfare programs all rely on correct Aadhaar details. If the details are out of date, unnecessary delays and verification issues arise. Parents can easily complete this process with their child’s Aadhaar number at any authorized Aadhaar Enrolment Center.
