Aadhaar Enrolment: Government’s big announcement, now Aadhar card will be made for these people too, order issued

Aadhaar Enrolment: The government said that a person eligible for Aadhaar can enroll using ‘IRIS Scan’ in case fingerprints are not available.

Aadhaar Enrolment: The government has taken a big decision to make Aadhaar enrollment easier. The government said that a person eligible for Aadhaar can enroll using ‘IRIS Scan’ in case fingerprints are not available. This statement comes after Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar confirmed the nomination of Josimol P Jose, a woman from Kerala. The woman could not enroll for Aadhaar because she did not have fingers on her hands.

According to the statement, a team of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) met Jose, a resident of Kumarakam in Kottayam district of Kerala, at his home on the same day and generated his Aadhaar number. Chandrashekhar said that all Aadhaar Service Centers have been told that Aadhaar should be issued to people with blurred fingerprints or other similar disabilities by taking alternative biometrics.

Aadhaar will be generated only through iris scan

According to the statement, a person who is eligible for Aadhaar but is unable to provide fingerprints can enroll using IRIS Scan only. Similarly, an eligible person whose iris could not be taken for any reason can enroll using his fingerprint only.

It said that the name, gender, address, date of birth of a person unable to provide both finger and iris biometrics are matched with the available biometrics. So far, UIDAI has issued Aadhaar numbers to about 29 lakh people whose fingers were missing or were otherwise unable to provide finger or iris or both biometrics. UIDAI also investigated the reasons why Ms. Josimolin was not issued an Aadhaar number during the first enrolment, and found that this was because the Aadhaar enrollment operator did not follow the extraordinary enrollment process.
