Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP and liquor scam accused Sanjay Singh can now come out of jail. The Supreme Court has ordered that he be granted bail in the money laundering case related to the liquor scam. It is being told that during the hearing of the case, the Enforcement Directorate said that the investigating agency has no objection to Sanjay Singh being granted bail. The division bench of Justices Sanjeev Khanna, Dipankar Dutta and PB Varale made it clear that Sanjay Singh can be involved in political activities during the bail period.
Earlier, regarding the custody of liquor scam accused Sanjay Singh, the Supreme Court had asked the Enforcement Directorate whether there is a need to keep him in custody further? The Supreme Court had said that Sanjay Singh has spent 6 months in jail. The allegation against him of taking a bribe of Rs 2 crore can be examined during the hearing. The Supreme Court had asked the ED whether it needed further custody of Sanjay Singh?
According to media reports, the petitions challenging Sanjay Singh’s bail and arrest were heard in the country’s biggest court today. However, now that Sanjay Singh has got bail, the Aam Aadmi Party leaders must have heaved a sigh of relief. During the hearing in the court, the court had asked the ED about their side. Let us tell you that Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia is also in jail in the alleged liquor scam of Delhi.
ED is investigating this scam under money laundering. Recently, ED had also detained Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Since then Arvind Kejriwal is also lodged in Tihar jail. The party’s troubles are increasing continuously after senior AAP leaders went to jail.
Sanjay Singh was arrested by ED on October 4, 2023 in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. The investigating agency claims that Sanjay Singh is accused of keeping the proceeds of crime i.e. taking bribe and using it in the scam related to Delhi’s liquor policy in the year 2021-22.
