After Corona, now the risk of Zika virus in Kerala, 13 cases found

Zika Virus: A total of 13 cases of Zika virus (Zika Virus) were reported in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala on Thursday amid corona epidemic. According to Hindustan Times, 13 samples were sent for testing at the Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV), which has been reported positive. The Kerala Health Minister confirmed that all cases of Zika virus infection have been detected in the capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Thursday said that zika virus cases have been detected in the state. He said this is the first time that zika virus has been reported in Kerala, IANS reported.

She said the 24-year-old pregnant woman was reported with fever, headache and rashes at a hospital in the state capital district last month. The first result showed mild positive signs of the virus and 13 out of 19 samples tested later were also found to be Zika positive. All samples have now been sent to NIV, Pune.

According to the World Health Organization, the Zika virus is transmitted only by the bite of aedes mosquitoes that bite during the day. Symptoms of zika virus are similar to dengue and viral such as fever, joint pain, rash on the body, fatigue, headache and redness of the eyes.

However, the RNA of this virus is different. Zika virus usually remains in the blood of an infected person for a week when infected. Symptoms usually begin to appear 3 to 14 days after the infected mosquito bites.

The Zika virus was first detected in monkeys in Uganda in 1947 and later in 1952 in Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania. This has been followed by the outbreak of Zika virus in Asia, Africa, the US and pacific islands.
