New Delhi. Priyanka Chopra currently has her hands full with success. On one hand, the global icon is taking on one impressive Hollywood project after another; on the other, the doors of Bollywood have also begun to open up for the actress once again.
Hindi cinema’s ‘Desi Girl,’ Priyanka Chopra, is making her return to Indian cinema after nearly six years with the S.S. Rajamouli-directed film ‘Varanasi,’ in which she will star opposite Mahesh Babu. In the interim, Priyanka has mentioned several times in her interviews that discussions regarding a few films in Hindi cinema are also underway. Now, reports suggest that following ‘Mary Kom,’ Priyanka Chopra is set to appear in yet another major biopic.
To Star in Biopic of Most Popular Female Painter
According to a report by *Mid-Day*, Priyanka Chopra is set to join the cast of the biopic on Amrita Sher-Gil, titled *Amri*. Notably, Amrita Sher-Gil—who held dual citizenship in India and Hungary—was one of the most renowned female painters of the early 20th century. According to sources associated with the project, in this film directed by Mira Nair, Priyanka will appear not as the main lead, but in a pivotal supporting role.
Given that Priyanka is currently working extensively in both Hindi cinema and Hollywood, her presence in the film is expected to lend it a global star appeal. Mira Nair plans to release the film on a grand scale across India, as well as in Hungary and France; in this context, Priyanka’s association with the project will prove to be a significant asset.
Priyanka Chopra Has Completed Her Portion of the Shoot
According to reports, there is a specific segment of ‘Amri’ that Mira Nair wanted Priyanka Chopra—and no one else—to perform. It was for this very reason that she reached out to the ‘Desi Girl’ last year. Priyanka recently completed shooting her part in Amritsar. She traveled directly to Amritsar for this assignment from Hyderabad, where she had been filming her movie ‘Varanasi’; she spent two days shooting for the film there. Actress Tanya Maniktala plays the lead role in this movie.
This marks the first collaboration between Mira Nair and Priyanka Chopra. Just as Priyanka works in both Hollywood and Bollywood, Mira, too, is an Indian-American filmmaker. The makers have currently maintained complete silence regarding the film’s storyline and the type of role Priyanka will portray in it.
