Agniveers In UP Police Recruitment: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made a big announcement regarding Agniveers. The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday (June 3) decided to give 20 percent reservation for Agniveers in direct recruitment to several posts including constable, mounted police and fireman in the state police force. State Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said that a decision in this regard was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Khanna said that Agniveers applying for these posts will also be given special age relaxation of up to three years.

Talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Khanna said that the move is aimed at providing opportunities to former Agniveers who have completed their four-year tenure under the Agneepath scheme after meaningful service. According to PTI, he said, “This is an important decision. The reservation will apply to all categories General, SC, ST and OBC. If an Agniveer belongs to SC category, then the reservation will apply within SC. If OBC, then it will apply within OBC.”

In this regard, there are four categories of recruitment in which Agniveers will be recruited – Constable Police, Constable PAC, Mounted Police and Fireman. He said that the first batch of recruitment under this system will come in 2026. Khanna said, “Many states and central forces have taken initiative to give reservation to Agniveers.”

He said, “CISF, BSF and states like Haryana and Odisha have offered 10 per cent reservation to former Agniveers. The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has now approved 20 per cent reservation, which is a bold and generous initiative.” The minister further said, “This not only recognizes their (Agniveers’) service but also ensures that they can continue to contribute to the country’s security structure even after their military tenure.”

Speaking to reporters, Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said the move is aimed at providing meaningful job opportunities to Agniveers after completing their four-year tenure under the Agneepath scheme. The first batch of recruitment under this system will come in 2026.

He said, this not only recognizes their service. The Centre had launched the Agneepath scheme in 2022 to induct personnel for short term in the Army, Navy and Air Force with an aim to reduce the age limit of the three services.
