Air India plane going to London crashes in Ahmedabad soon after take off

There is news of an Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Black smoke was seen rising in the sky from the crash site. The rescue team has reached the spot. It is being told that this accident happened immediately after the plane took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. There were a total of 242 people on board the plane, including 12 crew members (including two pilots) and 230 passengers. The plane took off at 1:38 pm on Thursday and crashed just two minutes later at 1:40 pm. Ahmedabad Police Control Room has confirmed this. According to the information, this plane was going from Ahmedabad to London and crashed near Meghaninagar shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport. There were 169 Indians, 53 British, 7 Portuguese and 1 Canadian citizen on board the plane.

After an emergency meeting in the Civil Aviation Ministry, Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have left for Ahmedabad. Immediately after the accident, 7 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and started extinguishing the fire. Many videos of the plane crash are viral on social media, in which a black cloud of smoke is seen rising in the sky from the accident site. Immediately after the accident, the Emergency Response Team was deployed on the spot. Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the accident. Heavy smoke was seen rising in the sky from the accident site near Dharpur near Meghnagar area. BSF and NDRF teams have been dispatched to the accident site. The crash plane is said to be Boeing’s 787-8 Dreamliner, which was 11 years old.

Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was also on board the plane

Air India flight AI-171 took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport) for Ahmedabad and after a brief halt here, it took off for London on Thursday afternoon and crashed. Fire officer Jayesh Khadia said that after the crash, the plane caught fire and fire engines were sent to the spot to douse the fire. According to sources, former Gujarat Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Rupani was also on board the plane. The NDRF said in a statement that its three teams comprising 90 personnel have been sent from Gandhinagar to the plane crash site. A total of three more teams are being sent from Vadodara.

Air India spokesperson said in a post on X, ‘Flight AI171 flying from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport crashed today on June 12, 2025. At this time, we are ascertaining the damage caused by the accident and will share further information as soon as possible on http://airindia.com and our X handle https://x.com/airindia.’ CISF’s team present at the airport is present at the location. Soon after taking off from runway 23 of Ahmedabad airport, the plane fell on the ground inside the airport premises and a loud blast was heard. The Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the Director General of the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has left for Ahmedabad with a team for investigation.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement, ‘Air India’s B787 Dreamliner aircraft flying from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport crashed in a residential area (Meghaninagar) while taking off at 1:38 pm. Directorate of Air Warfare (DAW), Assistant Directors of Air Warfare (ADAW) and a Flight Operation Inspector (FOI) are already in Ahmedabad. They are investigating the causes of the accident.’

On the Ahmedabad plane crash, Air India Chairman N.
