Airport Gold Limit: Indian travelers prefer to buy gold from Dubai because of its cheap and pure gold availability there. However, if you bring gold beyond the prescribed limit upon returning to India, you must report it at the airport. According to customs regulations, bringing gold in excess of the permitted limit incurs duty, and providing incorrect information can result in a fine or even confiscation of the gold.

Separate limits for women and men

According to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), women can bring a maximum of 40 grams of gold worth up to ₹1 lakh from Dubai without any customs duty. For male travelers, the limit is 20 grams, with a maximum value of ₹50,000. This gold can be in the form of coins, jewelry, or bars. Bringing gold in excess of the permitted limit will incur customs duty, which can range from 3% to 10% depending on the quantity.

Rules apply to children as well.

Children under 15 years of age can also bring gold, but their limit is 40 grams and an identification card is required. Customs duty is levied on gold brought by children if the quantity is between 40 and 100 grams, 6 percent for 100 and 200 grams, and 10 percent for gold exceeding 200 grams. The same rules apply to male and female travelers, with different rates of tax depending on the quantity purchased.

Required Documents and Precautions

If you are bringing gold from Dubai to India, you must have the purchase receipt (invoice), purity certificate, and serial number of the gold bar. If you bring gold beyond the prescribed limit at the airport, you must go through the red channel so that customs officials can inspect it. Providing incorrect or incomplete information can result in a fine or confiscation of the gold. Experts say that by following the rules, you can bring cheap Dubai gold and avoid legal complications.
