Monthly allowance will be increased from Rs 500
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a hike in the monthly allowance of clerics and Hindu priests. In fact, the monthly allowance of Hindu priests and clerics will be increased from Rs 500. This has been announced by the Chief Minister while addressing the conference of Imams and Priests at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that when I participate in any program of minorities, I am accused of appeasing them but I believe in love and respect for people of all religions. We have decided to increase the existing allowance of Imam and Hindu priest by Rs 500.
Alowance will increase by this much
Muslim clerics are provided with a monthly allowance of 2500 rupees while muezzins receive a stipend of 1000 rupees since 2012. The government had announced a hike in the monthly honorarium of the state’s imams and muezzins. With this increase, Imams will now be provided Rs 3000 per month while muezzins will get Rs 1500 instead of Rs 1000 per month allowance.
Puja grant was increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000
Earlier, the puja grant was increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 last year by the Chief Minister. A grant of Rs.60,000 will be given to 42,028 worship committees.
