Banking Rules Change: The RBI has issued new guidelines for updating credit scores. Many banks have made changes related to credit and debit cards. Savings account rules have also changed. Let’s explore these rules one by one:

Banking Rules Change: Many banking-related changes are set to take place at the beginning of the new year. New rules for credit cards, debit cards, and ATMs will come into effect. Banks have announced these changes, and account holders should be aware of them. HDFC Bank has made changes related to debit card benefits and features. Additionally, SBI, ICICI Bank, and IDFC First Bank have announced new credit card rules. All rules will come into effect in January 2026, although the dates will vary.

As per RBI’s directive, all banks and non-banking finance companies will be required to share information with credit bureaus every 14 days. This will ensure timely updates to credit scores and make it easier to obtain loans. This change will come into effect from January 1, 2026. The Reserve Bank of India has also issued a related notification.

Debit Card Changes

Private sector HDFC Bank has changed the rules for credit card airport lounge access. Upon spending up to ₹10,000 each quarter, customers will receive an SMS and email within working days on their registered mobile number/email ID, sharing a link to claim the lounge access voucher. Customers must click on this link to claim the voucher. A 12- to 18-digit voucher code will then be sent to their mobile number and email address.

This code will need to be shown upon lounge entry. Millennium, Times, and Giga debit card holders will receive one lounge visit per quarter. The limit for Platinum debit cards and Business debit cards will be two. The limit for Infinity debit cards is four. This change will be effective from January 10.

SBI Credit Card Rules

State Bank of India has made changes to domestic airport lounge access. The new rules for credit cards with annual fees of Rs 1,499 and Rs 2,999 will come into effect from January 10, 2026. The airport lounge access program is managed by network partners. Cards eligible for lounge access have been divided into two sets – Set A and Set B. To avail this facility, an SBI credit card must be shown at the lounge POS terminal. Visa and RuPay cards will be charged Rs 2. The temporary fee for Mastercard will be Rs 25.

These banks have also changed their credit card rules.

ICICI Bank: ICICI Bank has changed several services, including reward points, dynamic currency conversion fees, and add-on card fees, for select credit cards. The new rules will come into effect on January 15th. Every retail transaction of ₹200 will earn 6 rewards. This change applies to the ICICI Bank Emeralde credit card.

IDFC First Bank: Starting January 18th, IDFC Ashva and Mayura credit card holders will now receive 5X reward points instead of 10X. This benefit will not be available if the minimum balance is not paid. Classic, Select, and Wealth credit cards will now receive 10X rewards on monthly spends of ₹20,000. This will also apply to birthday spends.

IndusInd Bank Account Rules

IndusInd Bank has made several changes to its current and savings accounts, effective January 1, 2026. The bank has decided to remove the quarterly inactive charge. Currently, this charge is ₹200 per quarter. The fee for inward check returns has been increased from ₹450 to ₹500. RTGS and NEFT charges have also been changed.
