According to Hindu Panchang, Basant Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Magha every year. It is celebrated as Prakatya Divas of Maa Saraswati. Today i.e. on February 16, the festival of Basant Panchami 2021 is being celebrated across the country. The spring season is going on during Basant Panchami. In spring there is neither much heat nor winter, due to this, spring is called the king of seasons. Let us know here such interesting facts related to Basant Panchami, which you may not be aware of.
1- Basant Panchami is also celebrated as the beginning of the spring season. It is also known as Shri Panchami. The mustard fields rise in the spring. Nature is painted yellow all around.
2- In the Gita, Lord Krishna has said that spring is one of my forms. This season is considered very sacred. There is a practice of flying kites in Punjab on the day of Basant Panchami.
3. On the day of Basant Panchami, Mother Goddess Saraswati is worshiped. After the worship of copy-books on the day of Basant Panchami in all the houses, the young child is taught to write for the first time. He is taught to draw letters by giving pencil in his hand. It is believed that by this the child gets the blessings of mother Saraswati and he progresses a lot.
4- Yellow color is considered a symbol of prosperity, light, energy and blessings. On Basant Panchami, people especially wear yellow clothes.
5- On the day of Basant Panchami, sticks are collected along with the idol of Holika and placed in a public place. After the next 40 days, devotees perform Holika Dahan a day before Holi.
6- Bundi ladoos and sweet rice are offered to Mother Saraswati in Bengal on Basant Panchami. Mal pua, kheer and bundi in Bihar, offer yellow rice to Lord Krishna and mother Saraswati in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab has a tradition of eating sweet rice, maize bread and mustard greens.
7- According to a legend mentioned in the Puranas, Lord Krishna; gave a boon to Goddess Saraswati that you will be worshiped on Basant Panchami. Since then, the practice of worshiping Goddess Saraswati started on this day.
