Smita Patil has been given the new responsibility in place of DM Vibhu Goyal. Also, the Election Commission has appointed former Punjab DGP Intelligence Anil Kumar Sharma as Special Police Supervisor for the Bengal Assembly elections.

A major action has been taken by the Election Commission on the incident of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee getting injured in Nandigram. The Commission has suspended SP Pravin Prakash of East Midnapore. Simultaneously DM Vibhu Goyal has also been removed. The commission has also released Mamta Banerjee’s security director Vivek Sahai.

On Sunday, the Election Commission stated that charges against Sahay should be framed within a week for Mamata’s failure to discharge her primary duty as Z + security. Smita Patil has been given the new responsibility in place of DM Vibhu Goyal. Also, the Election Commission has appointed former Punjab DGP Intelligence Anil Kumar Sharma as Special Police Supervisor for the Bengal Assembly elections. The Election Commission has asked STAR campaigners to follow the security arrangements given by the security agencies.

According to PTI, after reviewing the report of Special Election Supervisors Ajay Nayak and Vivek Dubey, the Commission concluded that the injury to Mamata Banerjee was a result of the lapse of the personnel handling her security responsibility.

It is worth noting that during his election campaign in Nandigram, CM Mamta Banerjee suffered a leg injury. After the incident, the Trinamool leader alleged that an attempt was made to crush his leg. After the incident, a round of accusations between the parties and the opposition across the country had started. However, later the Election Commission made it clear that it was not an attack but an accident.

Let it be said that elections are being held in Bengal in 8 phases. The first phase of polling for the 294-seat assembly is scheduled on March 27. The final phase of voting will be held on April 29, while votes will be counted on May 2. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee is in the fray from Nandigram, where she faces her former colleague Shuvendu Adhikari.
