Big Blow: 69 Year Old Milton Cycle Hangs After Atlas Of Foundation Of Haryana Industry

Two years ago, there was a tussle in the family over the legal partition. It had an impact on the entire Atlas group. While Atlas was locked down two years back, the company in Sahibabad in Ghaziabad was also shut down about a year and a half ago. From that time on, Milton also went on the path of captivity.

Two years after the closure of Atlas Company, which laid the foundation of the industry 69 years ago in Haryana, another company Milton Cycles has also been locked. Till a decade ago, the Milton Company, which supplied bicycles to the country and the world, has now started to be absorbed by the management. The reason for this is said to be increasing tussle for legal division in the family. Along with the lock down on the Milton Company, about 250 workers have been fired without paying salaries. Now there is no one to take care of them.

In 1951, the foundation of the first unit of Atlas Cycle Limited was laid on Atlas Road in Sonipat, while the foundation of its second unit Milton Cycle Industries Limited was also laid in the industrial area at the same time. Until 2003, bicycle parts were made in Milton and bicycles were made by bringing parts to Atlas. Because at that time the name of Atlas was more popular.

In the year 2003, when there was a tussle between the family, the family fixed different responsibilities for running the company. At that time, Milton Company had gone to Jaidev Kapoor, then Arun, Vikram and Rajiv Kapoor started running the Atlas cycle. Milton started manufacturing bicycles only in 2003 and there were around 700 employees at that time. There, 70 thousand cycles were being made in a month and when the demand for cycles increased, by the year 2008, 1.5 lakh cycles were being manufactured every month.

As soon as the bicycles were made in Milton, exports started to most of the countries of Asia, then around the year 2005, bicycles started being supplied to the countries of Europe from there. At that time there were about 1200 employees. In the year 2003, the management of Atlas Group was divided for the sake of operations only, but now two years back, there was a tussle in the family over legal division. It had an impact on the entire Atlas group. While Atlas was locked down two years back, the company in Sahibabad in Ghaziabad was also shut down about a year and a half ago. From that time on, Milton also went on the path of captivity.

For two years, the workers were being fired continuously. This left about 250 employees in the company. According to the employees of the company, from March 20 to March 21, the workers were given half the salary. Since then the salary has been stopped. At the same time, the Milton Company has been locked down and all the workers have been fired. In this way, another company of the Atlas Group, which is said to be the biggest foundation of the industry, was locked.

Till two years ago, thousands of bicycles were made in Milton and the company was getting a lot of orders too. The family tussle continued to affect the company and nothing was thought of the employees. Now suddenly the company was locked and the employees were not even paid salaries. – Surendra Singh, Principal Milton bicycle Workers Union.

The employees are bearing the brunt of the ongoing tussle between the management. Half the salary was being given for one year, then for the last several months, the salary was not given. If the company is run properly, the management and the employees will be better for all.Surendra Malik, Deputy President.

The matter of winding up the company has come to me, in which the management was called and all the papers were presented on their behalf. It was told that the process of legal partition between them is going on. The matter is going on for him in the National Company Law Tribunal, Chandigarh. That is why Atlas Sonipat and Atlas Ghaziabad were closed earlier and now Milton was also closed.Sunil Nandal, Assistant Labor Commissioner.
