The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) will not allow major changes to the profile for its members online.

Big news for millions of PF holders This feature of PF account is no longer available online Records are likely to be mismatched due to online correction

There is a possibility of mismatch in the record due to online correction in the profile. This will increase the risk of fraud. In this regard, EPFO has issued a circular to the field offices and member organizations. This circular makes it clear that no employee’s record should be amended without evidence. This circular comes just before the announcement of interest rates for the financial year 2021-20.

SBI launches ‘Pension Service’ website for pensioners, now online information will be available including pension profile and transaction details

FY20 saw a number of cases in which EPFO withheld payment of interest to about 10% of its subscribers. The EPFO has directed its field offices to retain the proof provided by the employees and the employer for audit.

Submission of evidence and verification will be followed by change

Under normal circumstances, no major member’s profile can be modified online or offline, the circular said. However, some changes may be made under the legal provision in a very necessary situation. This can be corrected with proof if the employer has uploaded incorrect data. This process will be completed only after following the entire verification. It states that the name of the father / husband, date of birth and gender will be taken to facilitate the correction of misinformation. But in some cases it has been noticed that many changes have been made in the whole name and profile. This increases the risk of fraud.

EPFO subscribers should note, now this facility of PF account will not be available online

What is small-big change

EPFO classifies small and large changes to facilitate compliance. If a letter is modified without changing the first letter without a name or nickname, it will be considered a minor change. Thus if the middle name or surname is to be changed after marriage then the change will be based on the name given in the Aadhaar card. But a change in the full name will not be allowed. Changes cannot be made through the online process without giving detailed information and submitting proof by this employer. Celery slip with documents is important if an organization is closed. The field offices of EPFO have already been directed to retain the submitted proof and make it available at the time of audit.
