DigiYatra facility : The DigiYatra facility is now available at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. The facility will be operational at the check-in points in the airport and will enable paperless and contactless travel by using a facial recognition system (FRS) to verify the identity of air passengers linked to their boarding passes.
“Its main objective is to enhance the passenger experience by eliminating the need for verification of ticket and ID at multiple touch points and to achieve better movement of passengers through existing infrastructure using a digital framework,” reads the official statement issued by the airport authorities.
The DigiYatra policy is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to provide a biometric boarding system using facial recognition technology. The service was initially launched in Delhi, Bengaluru and Varanasi in December 2022 and is planned to roll out across other Indian airports in the coming months. According to the Ministry, the goal of this digital initiative is to provide a seamless and hassle-free experience for passengers at airports.
The service notably eliminates the verification process at airports using paper boarding passes. The new e-facility fastens the security check at the entry gates, boarding gates and security check area for passengers, saving travelling time for passengers. Notably, The DigiYatra facility is available at security hold areas 1, 2 and 3 and boarding gates 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23.

How to register for DigiYatra
To register for DigiYatra service-
- Install the DigiYatra app on your phone from the PlayStore (Android) or App Store (iOS). After installation, register using your mobile number by entering the OTP sent to your phone.
- Link your ID credentials using DigiLocker or Offline Aadhaar. If you choose the second option, you will need to upload an XML file. Note that Aadhaar for individuals below five years of age will not be accepted.
- Provide a clear selfie with no obstructions.
- Upload your boarding pass on the DigiYatra app and share it with the departure airport. Ensure that your name on the flight ticket, Aadhaar and boarding pass are the same when uploading documents.
- Once you have submitted these documents, your DigiYatra ID will be ready to use.
- Notably, if you have submitted your Aadhaar details, your verification for DigiYatra will be done online as the Aadhaar card contains your biometric information. However, if you have not submitted your Aadhaar details, you will need to verify your ID manually by contacting CISF at the airport.
- After registering, you can use your DiGiYatra account for the check-in and boarding process at the airport.
How to use DigiYatra App at Kolkata Airport
- To use the DigiYatra facility at Kolkata airport, follow these steps:
- Arrive at Gate Number 2B or 3A as the service is only available at these gates.
- Share and scan your bar-coded boarding pass or mobile boarding pass.
- Look into the camera of the facial recognition system installed at the gate.
- After successful validation, the e-gate will open automatically to allow entry.
