CAA Row: CAA will not be implemented in these states of the country, know the reason

CAA Row: It has been told by the government that under the Citizenship Act, people who came to India before December 31, 2014, will be given citizenship under CAA. Although Muslims are not included in this.

Citizenship Amendment Act: The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has been implemented by the Central Government. It was notified by the government, after which CAA came into force across the country. Under this law, non-Muslim citizens coming from neighboring countries of India will be given Indian citizenship. There was a controversy regarding CAA for many years, after which it has now been implemented just before the Lok Sabha elections. However, there are some states of the country which have been kept out of CAA.

What is CAA?

First of all, you should know what this CAA is… CAA has been brought to give citizenship to the refugees who have come to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. In this, people of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities can get citizenship. However, Muslims have been kept out of this, which is a matter of controversy for a long time and many people are opposing it. It has been told by the government that people who came to India before December 31, 2014, will be given citizenship under CAA. Earlier, citizenship was given only after completion of 11 years of residence in India, but now under CAA it has been reduced to five years.

Where will CAA not be implemented?

A report in The Hindu states that most places in the North-East have been kept out of the citizenship law. There will be no impact of CAA in the states and areas falling under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. This means that if someone is a refugee in these places then he cannot take citizenship. These include states like Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur.

At present, CAA has been implemented by the Central Government just before the Lok Sabha elections, controversy has started once again regarding it. Opposition parties have said that it is not right to implement such a law in India. Whereas states like West Bengal and Kerala have refused to implement CAA.
