I want to say clearly that this is a political murder.’ Kirk, 31, was giving a speech on campus as part of his “American Comeback Tour” when the shooting occurred. Authorities said one man was taken into custody.
Video of the incident surfaced
A video of the incident is rapidly going viral, in which Kirk is seen being shot in the neck. In the video, Kirk is seen speaking under a white tent holding a microphone in his hand. Then a shot is fired and Kirk is seen raising his right hand upwards, while a lot of blood is flowing from the left side of his neck. Witnesses reported that he bled profusely after the shooting. According to officials, only one shot was fired. Kirk was asking a listener questions about mass shootings and gun violence just before the shooting. Utah Valley University said the campus was immediately evacuated and closed. Those who were on campus were asked to stay put until police officers could take them out safely.
