1. Hum Log (1984–85)

It is said that ‘Hum Log’ was the first serial of Doordarshan. Which was directed by P. Kumar Vasudev. This story was about a middle class family and its struggles.

2. Malgudi Days (1986)

R.K. Based on the stories of Narayan, ‘Malgudi Days’ was directed by Shankar Nag. This serial is also one of the serials of Doordarshan’s golden era. This story is set in a fictional town named Malgudi.

3. Ramayana (1987–88)

Ramayana was directed by Ramanand Sagar. In this, Arun Govil Ram, Deepika Chikhaliya Sita, Sunil Lahiri Laxman and Arvind Trivedi played the role of Ravana. The magic of this serial was such that when it used to start, some people started worshiping in front of the TV.

4. Mahabharata (1988–89)

Mahabharata was directed by B.R. Chopra did. This story of Pandavas and Kauravas got a lot of love from the audience and was seen a lot in every house.

5. Buniyaad (1986–87)

This brilliant serial was directed by Ramesh Sippy. This story is about a Punjabi family and during the partition of India.

6. Tamas (1987)

Directed by Govind Nihalani, this period drama is set during the Partition of India. A painful picture of communal tension and violence is seen in it. This serial was based on the novel Tamas by Bhishma Sahni.

7. Byomkesh Bakshi (1993–97)

Basu Chatterjee directed this detective series. This serial is based on the stories of Bengali writer Sharadendu Bandyopadhyay. In this, Rajat Kapoor played the role of Byomkesh Bakshi and it also got a lot of love.

8. Fauji (1988)

Shah Rukh Khan appeared in the lead role in this drama directed by Ravi Rai. The story of the life of the cadets in the Indian Army Training Academy has been presented in this novel.

10. Surbhi (1990–2001)
