The Central Government has approved the Metro Phase-5(A) project, under which the Central Vista area will be connected to the metro network. The RK Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor will connect the Kartavya Bhavans, and the Central Secretariat will become a triple interchange station.
New Delhi. Preparations to connect the Central Vista area to the metro network have commenced. Construction work is set to begin shortly. The Central Government had approved the Metro Phase-5(A) project during the last week of December.
In this phase, three new corridors spanning a total length of 16 kilometers will be developed. The three approved corridors include the route from RK Ashram to Indraprastha (via Central Vista), Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Domestic Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.
Connecting All ‘Kartavya’ Buildings
The total length of the RK Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor is 9.913 kilometers. The stations along this route will include RK Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, Baroda House, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.
This corridor will pass through the Central Vista area and will connect all the ‘Kartavya’ buildings. The Delhi Government will contribute ₹2,337.24 crore towards this project, which carries a total estimated cost of ₹9,570.40 crore.
The tendering process for the Shivaji Stadium to Kartavya Bhawan section has already been initiated. A tender worth ₹1,024.80 crore has been allocated for the civil works. This scope of work entails the construction of two tunnels between Shivaji Stadium and the Central Secretariat, one tunnel between the Central Secretariat and Kartavya Bhawan, and two underground stations located at the Central Secretariat and Kartavya Bhawan.
Central Secretariat Station to Become a Triple Interchange Station
The Central Secretariat Station will be developed as a triple interchange station. Here, passengers on the Yellow, Violet, and Magenta Lines will be able to switch metro trains. The project is targeted for completion within 33 months.
Upon the completion of this corridor, metro connectivity in Central Delhi will be significantly enhanced. This initiative will benefit approximately 60,000 employees and other commuters. It will also help streamline commuting in Central Delhi by reducing the vehicular load on the roads.
