Driving Licence: Losing a driving license can be a major problem for any everyday driver, especially when you have to travel frequently and need a valid DL. Fortunately, obtaining a duplicate DL has become easier than ever before. The government has simplified the process, and now you can apply for a duplicate driving license online. If you don’t have internet access, an offline method is also available. The entire process is explained below in simple language, so you can get a duplicate driving license on your own without any agent.
Documents Required for a Duplicate Driver’s License
The following documents are typically required to apply for a duplicate driving license:
- FIR/Lost Report (if the license is stolen/lost)
- Form LLD (Duplicate Driving License Form)
- Address Proof
- Age Proof
- Passport-size Photo (digital photo in many states)
- Copy of Old Driver’s License (if available)
Note: Additional documents may also be required in some states.
Duplicate Driving Licence: Online
- Open the Parivahan Sarathi website (sarathi.parivahan.gov.in).
- Select your state here.
- Select Apply for Duplicate DL from the available services and begin the process.
- You will be asked for your Driving Licence Number and Date of Birth. Submit the details and proceed.
- You will now see a pre-filled form, in which you must enter your RTO Office (where the driving licence was issued) and proceed.
- In the next steps, you will be asked to confirm your mobile number, email address, and address. If your address has changed, you will have the option to change it as well, for which a separate fee will be charged.
- After this, you will need to upload a self-attested copy of the FIR (in case of a lost DL).
Finally, you will need to make the payment. - Upon successful payment, download the Acknowledgement and save it somewhere.
Please note that until you receive a duplicate driving license, you can use the Acknowledgement document and show it when the traffic police ask for it.
Another option is DigiLocker, where you can download your original DL. The government has stated that the license on the DigiLocker app is valid and must be accepted by the traffic police.
