United States of america
The United States allows the use of Indian driver’s licenses on American roads. A driving license is valid for one year from the day of entry into the country. However, the driving license cannot be in any regional language of India and if it is, it must be translated into English. To drive a car in the USA you must also carry an I-94 form, which serves as proof of lawful entry.
Australia
Australia also allows the use of an Indian driving license for one year in many places, including New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. However, for Northern Australia the license is valid for three months.
Canada
Canada allows Indian citizens to drive with their DL for a period of up to 60 days, after which you will need a separate permit if you wish to continue driving in the country. In Canada, vehicles also drive on the right side of the road.
UK
Indian driver’s license is valid for one year from the day of entry in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. However, there are rules regarding this in the UK and only motorcycles and cars are allowed to drive. For this, the license should also be in English and you will have to drive on the left side of the road.
New Zealand
New Zealand allows the use of an Indian driving license for one year, after which one will need a NZ driver’s license or international driving permit. The minimum age required to drive in New Zealand with an Indian DL is 21 years and your driving license must be in English.
Switzerland
Like the above countries, Switzerland also allows an Indian driving license holder to drive in the country for one year. The license must be in English and cars here must drive on the right side of the road.
Germany
Indian driving license is allowed to be used in Germany only for six months. This license must be in either English or German. After six months you will need an international driving permit or a German driving license.
France
An Indian driver’s license in France is valid for up to one year, however, one must have it translated into French. Also, like most of Europe, cars in France have their steering wheels on the left, and cars drive on the right side of the road.
South Africa
You can drive in South Africa for one year with an Indian driving license. The driving license must be in English and an international driving permit may be required to rent a car or motorcycle in the country.
Sweden
You can enjoy driving on the beautiful roads of Sweden for a year with an Indian driver’s license. This driving license must be in English or another language approved by Sweden.
