Electricity Bill: Electricity becomes cheaper in Mumbai, reduced rates will be applicable from April 1, bill to charge e-vehicle will also come down

Electricity Bill: Apart from general usage, electricity rates have been reduced in Mumbai to promote electric cars, e-bikes so that people use more electric vehicles.

Electricity Bill: The people of the country may be feeling the shock of inflation from all sides, but there is good news for the people of Mumbai. Electricity companies have decided to make domestic and commercial use electricity cheaper from 1 April. In Maharashtra, electricity rates have been cut from 5 to 11 percent. The reduced rates will be applicable for the next five years. Consumers of Tata Power, Adani Power, Maharashtra Electricity and BEST will have a slightly lower electricity bill from April 1 onwards.

Tata Power reduced electricity tariff

In the utility tariff, Tata Power consumers will get a discount of 4% in the bracket of 0-100 units. For low-consumption Tata Power consumers who fall in the range of 0-100 units, the electricity rates will be reduced from Rs 3.77 per unit to 3.63 per unit, which is about 4 percent cheaper. Consumers falling in the category of 101-300 units will get a cut of 4 paise or 1%. The tariff of consumers of high consumption ie 301-500 units category has been increased by about 1%.




BEST will also reduce its electricity bill

There is no change in the tariff of the first two slabs for 10.5 lakh consumers of BEST, i.e. the rates will not change for 0-100 units and 101-300 units. Most of its customers are in Colaba, Sion, Cuffe Parade and Mahim. Consumers with high consumption will get 1% discount in tariff, which will be applicable from the beginning of next financial year i.e. 1st April 2021.

The bill for big users of Adani Electricity will be reduced

The tariff has been increased by about 1 percent for Adani Electricity’s low-consumption users, but for high-consumption consumers, they consume in the range of 301-500 units or spend more than 500 units on April 1. Will get cheaper electricity from it.

MSEDCL also reduced rates

Those consumers of MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited) who live in Bhandup, Mulund, Thane, Navi Mumbai and the rest of the state, will get electricity of up to 2 percent cheaper. Consumers who spend more than 500 units will have to pay 4 paise or about 1 percent more tariff.

Cheapest of BEST power

For the fifth consecutive year, BEST will continue to provide the cheapest electricity in Maharashtra. While MSEDCL has the highest tariff for residential, commercial and industrial consumers in the year 2021-22. MSEDCL has 26 million subscribers. Tata Power, which has 7 lakh consumers in Mumbai, is followed by Adani Electricity at number three in terms of cheap electricity, Adani has 30 lakh consumers.

45,000 crore electricity bill outstanding

This reduction in electricity rates will provide relief to millions of domestic, commercial and industrial consumers who have been affected by coronavirus. As on date, Maharashtra’s total electricity bill is more than Rs 45,000 crore.

Electricity is cheaper for e-vehicles too

To promote e-vehicles, the rate of electric vehicle charging station has also been reduced from Rs 6 per unit to Rs 5.5 per unit. Maintenance of electric vehicles has also been reduced compared to petrol and diesel powered vehicles.
