Electricity Bill Hike: After the announcement of free current, the electricity rate per unit has increased in this state, see the new rates here

Bengaluru: After giving the green signal to the ‘Griha Jyoti’ scheme to provide free 200 units of electricity to every household, the Congress-led government in the state has given a shock to the electricity price hike to the consumers.

The revised tariff is being collected from July and the ‘Griha Jyoti’ beneficiaries have been saved from this electric shock. On May 12, a rate hike of 70 paise per unit was made with retrospective effect from April 1. Hence, both April and May surcharge will be levied in June.

Escomvaru fare hike:

As per KERC approval on 13 Mar 2023, from April to June (three months), Bengaluru Electricity Supply Corporation (BESCOM) will charge Rs. 1 paise, Mangalore Mescom 93 paise, Mysore Cesc 82 paise, Hubballi Hescom Rs 1, Kalaburagi Gescom could have increased the rate by 67 paise. As this burden has been spread over six months, instead of collecting from April 1 to June 30, collection has been allowed from July 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. Thus, in the first phase, from July to September, there will be an increase of 51 paise, Mescom 47 paise, Cesc 41 paise, Hescom 50 paise, 34 paise per unit for Bescom customers.

Adjournment due to election

Generally, the rate hike will be effective from April 1. KERC had postponed this process due to assembly elections. KERC had agreed to increase the electricity tariff by an average of 70 paise per unit in response to the demand of ESKs facing revenue shortfall. 1.39 per unit at Rs. Eskoms had demanded to increase (16.83 percent). A total of Rs 62,133 crore for the year 2023-24. The Eskoms submitted a proposal to KERC for annual revenue. 8,951 crores out of this amount. There was also a lack of income.
