ToD Tariff Rule: Instead of paying electricity bills at the same rate throughout the day, consumers will pay different electricity charges for different times of the day. In this way they can easily reduce their electricity bill.
The central government is now going to implement a new rule to fix the electricity bill in the country. The government has changed the two systems of the existing electricity tariff. The government is going to implement the rule of ‘time of day’ (TOD) to fix electricity rates. After the implementation of this rule, consumers can save up to 20 percent of their electricity bills by managing power consumption during day time. Under the TOD rule, different electricity rates will be applicable for different times of the day.
Day time tariff will be less
Under the new rule, the tariff during solar hours (day time) will be 10-20 per cent less than normal. At the same time, the tariff will be 10-20 percent more in peak hours. Union Power and Energy Minister RK Singh believes that this new rule will benefit the consumers in any case. With the implementation of the TOD system, consumers will be able to refrain from doing high electricity consumption tasks like washing clothes and cooking during peak hours of electricity.
When will the new tariffs be implemented?
As per the official release, TOD tariff will be applicable from April 1, 2024 for commercial and industrial consumers with maximum demand of 10 kW and above. After this, from April 1, 2025, TOD system will be implemented for all other consumers except agricultural consumers. However, for customers with smart meters, this system will be applicable only when they get such meters installed.
Fee for different time
Instead of paying electricity bills at the same rate throughout the day, consumers will pay different charges for electricity at different times of the day. In this way, they will be able to save electricity bill easily by managing their electricity consumption. Apart from this, the central government has also simplified the rules for smart meters of electricity. In this, to avoid inconvenience and harassment of consumers, a provision has been made for the existing penalty for increasing the demand of the consumer more than the maximum permissible load.
Consumers can take advantage
Union Power Minister RK Singh told that TOD is a win-win deal for the power system along with the consumers. This includes different tariffs for peak hours, solar hours and normal hours. With awareness and effective use of TOD tariff, consumers can reduce their electricity bills.
