Explainer: Question about halal in meat industry, India is world’s largest buffalo meat producer

India is a very prosperous country in terms of livestock and the export of animal products occupies a very important place in the total agricultural products. India holds the number one position in the world in terms of production of buffalo meat. Indian Buffalo Meat is very popular in the world due to its quality.

The central government has decided to remove the word ‘halal’ from the red meat manual. A question has arisen on this. Let us know what is India’s position in meat production and which countries does India export to?

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, oversees agricultural exports. Earlier in the Red Meat manual, it was written that according to the needs of Islamic countries, animals have been killed (killed) under the Halal process.

APEDA has also made it clear that there is no condition for halal meat from the Government of India. It states that a decision can be taken in terms of the country being exported or the need of the importer.
