NHAI FASTag Rules: As the new year begins, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has given news of relief to the people. Now the hassle of getting stuck at toll plazas will end and your journey will become easier. Yes, to increase public convenience and to save the people using the national highway from the hassles faced after activation, NHAI has decided to remove a major rule related to FASTag. The National Highway Authority of India has decided to stop the process of ‘Know Your Vehicle (KYV)’ for all newly issued FASTag cars (Car/Jeep/Van category FASTag) from 1 February 2026.
No KYV Required for FASTags
According to NHAI, this reform will provide significant relief to millions of road users who were facing inconvenience and delays due to the KYV requirements after FASTag activation despite having verified vehicle documents. For existing FASTags already issued for cars, KYV will no longer be mandatory as a routine requirement. KYV will only be required in specific cases where complaints are received, such as loose FASTags, incorrect issuance, or misuse. In the absence of any complaints, no KYV will be required for existing car FASTags.

Why was this reform made?
NHAI stated that these reforms reflect NHAI’s continued commitment to making the FASTag ecosystem citizen-friendly, transparent, and technology-driven. Additionally, these reforms will strengthen compliance and reduce complaints. By shifting the entire responsibility of verification to issuing banks before activation, NHAI aims to provide a hassle-free experience to national highway users.
