Free LPG Cylinders: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday (February 3) that free LPG gas cylinders will be provided to families holding valid ration cards for Holi and Diwali. The scheme aims to help economically vulnerable families in the national capital, especially women from low-income families.
Free LPG Cylinders: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government has provided significant relief to the residents of the capital ahead of Holi by approving a scheme to provide two free LPG cylinders every year. Under this plan, poor families living in the capital will receive one free cylinder each on Holi and Diwali. The Delhi Cabinet has officially approved this proposal, fulfilling a key promise made by the BJP during the Delhi Assembly elections.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced in a press conference on Tuesday (February 3) that free LPG gas cylinders will be provided to families holding valid ration cards on Holi and Diwali. This scheme aims to help economically weaker families in the national capital, especially women from low-income families.
Under this scheme, ration card holders and families falling under the economically weaker section category will receive free LPG cylinders during Holi and Diwali. In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Cabinet decided to transfer Rs 853 towards the cost of an LPG cylinder.
This means that this amount will be deposited into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. CM Gupta told reporters at a press conference that eligible ration card holders using piped natural gas (PNG) connections will also benefit from this scheme.
According to the Chief Minister, Rs. 853, equivalent to the price of one LPG cylinder, will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer system. He also clarified that ration card holders using PNG connections will not be excluded and will also benefit under the scheme.
This amount will be deposited into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries before Holi. The Chief Minister said that the government has allocated Rs. 242 crore for this free gas cylinder scheme. CM Gupta praised the scheme and said that his government is committed to fulfilling its election promises.
The government estimates that this scheme will cost approximately ₹300 crore. However, the current allocation for this initiative is ₹242 crore. Only those in the EWS category or those with a valid ration card will be able to benefit from it.
