Ganga Expressway Inauguration: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Uttar Pradesh’s ambitious project, the Ganga Expressway, on April 29. Once operational, this 594-kilometer-long expressway will reduce the travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj to a mere 6 to 7 hours—a journey that currently takes 10 to 12 hours.
According to officials, the expressway has been designed to accommodate a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. It is a six-lane expressway, with provisions in place to expand it to eight lanes in the future. The project has been constructed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority.
19 Ramp Toll Plazas Constructed on the Ganga Expressway
The expressway has been developed in four packages with a 120-meter Right-of-Way, ensuring that construction work is completed in a time-bound manner and in adherence to high-quality standards. Main toll plazas have been established at the entry points in Meerut and Prayagraj, while 19 ramp toll plazas have been set up along the route to facilitate convenient travel for commuters.
Facilities Available on the Ganga Expressway
With the convenience of travelers in mind, nine public utility complexes have been developed along the route. These complexes will feature fuel stations, food courts, rest areas, and sanitation facilities, thereby making long-distance travel more comfortable. As part of the project, state-of-the-art bridges have also been constructed over major rivers. A bridge approximately 960 meters in length has been built over the River Ganga, and another, approximately 720 meters long, over the River Ramganga.
These bridges have been constructed using advanced engineering techniques, taking into account flood patterns and water flow dynamics. The commissioning of the Ganga Expressway will further enhance connectivity between the western and eastern regions of the state. Additionally, it is expected to boost trade, industry, and tourism. An official stated that Uttar Pradesh currently accounts for approximately 55 percent of the country’s total expressway network—a share that is projected to rise to nearly 60 percent following the addition of the Ganga Expressway.
Where Will This Expressway Pass Through?
This expressway will pass through 12 districts, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. It is expected to benefit over 500 villages, thereby boosting economic development in both rural and urban areas.
