What is Ujjwala scheme?

The central government started the Prime Minister Ujjwala scheme on 1 May 2016. The government’s aim behind this scheme was to smokeless kitchens of women in rural areas. During that time, the government had set a target of giving cheap LPG gas connections to 5 crore people by the year 2019. In this scheme, the government had taken special care of the women living below the poverty line. It was believed that the smoke after the gas connection would help reduce health problems and air pollution.
