Golden Metro will run on the track in 2025, this is how DMRC took this big decision

Delhi Metro Golden Line: To ease the movement of people in Delhi, the work of expanding the metro is going on at a fast pace. Each corridor of Delhi Metro is identified by a different colour. Like yellow, blue, violet, red, green, pink, grey, magenta, now you will start seeing a metro with gold-looking stripes.

Delhi Metro Golden Line: Some time ago, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a big decision. According to this, as part of Metro Phase-4 project, the name of 25.82 km Silver Line has been changed to Golden Line. Now it will be known as the Golden Line.

This mostly underground line (Line-10) with 16 stations was officially given silver color code in September 2020, but in view of the problem related to visibility in bad weather, it has been decided to change the silver color code to golden. In fact, the strip of the same color on the silver colored coach was not clearly visible.

Golden Line is an under construction rapid transit line of Delhi Metro. It will directly connect South Delhi to IGI Airport to provide relief from the increasing traffic, congestion and pollution on the roads. It was earlier planned from Delhi Aerocity and will terminate at Tughlakabad.

There will be 16 stations under this 25.82 km long corridor. In this, four stations will be elevated and 12 underground. Construction work on this line started in June 2022.

Apart from the Golden Line, two other corridors are also under construction in Phase 4. These include extension of Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram and extension of Pink Line from Majlis Park to Maujpur. The construction work of the fourth phase is expected to be completed by March 2026.

Timeline and cost

The estimated completion date for Phase 4 construction is December 2024; work started in March 2023. The completion might, however, take until March 2026, according to recent updates. In the 2023–2024 budget, the Delhi Development Authority has set aside Rs 350 crore for the DMRC. It is anticipated that the Phase 4 expansion, which includes the Golden Line, will cost a total of about Rs 55,000 crore.
