For this, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDA), the issuing body of Aadhaar, has entered into a special agreement with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), under which postmen can update the mobile number of Aadhaar card holders from door to door.
This facility to update mobile in Aadhaar will be available through 650 India Post Payments Banks and 1.46 lakh postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS).
On Tuesday, J Venkataramu, Managing Director and CEO, India Post Payments Bank said in a statement, “UIDAI’s mobile update service will be provided through the network of post offices, postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks. This will help in reaching those areas where banking services have not reached till now and will also help in bridging the gap of the digital divide.
Aadhar enrollment of children will start very soon
Presently India Post Payments Bank is providing only mobile update service. But very soon the basis of children will also be made through this service. According to the information received by UIDAI, 128.99 crore Aadhaar cards have been issued across the country till March 31, 2021. Updating mobile number in Aadhaar card through this new facility will benefit crores of people. Now people whose Aadhaar is not registered with their mobile number or has been closed, they will be able to easily update mobile number in their Aadhaar.
Why is it necessary to update the mobile number registered in Aadhaar?
UIDAI issues Aadhar card to Indian citizens. It consists of a 12 digit identification number. In today’s time, it is very important to have Aadhaar to take advantage of many types of paperwork and government schemes. In the absence of Aadhaar, many government schemes will not be able to get the benefit. Apart from this, Aadhar card is also required for many things including getting SIM card, opening bank account, filing income tax return, ration under public distribution system or withdrawing money from EPF account.
To take advantage of many of these services, the verification process is completed by sending OTP to the registered mobile number. In such a situation, if the mobile number registered in Aadhaar is updated, then many such works will be completed very easily.
