Good News: Unemployment allowance will be available from this scheme of ESIC if job is lost

ESIC Unemployment Benefits: Under the Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana, 50% of the income is given as unemployment allowance in the form of financial assistance.

In the era of Kovid-19, employment has been lost from lakhs of people. According to CMIE, the average unemployment rate in India as of June 21 is at 10.6 percent. It has come down in the last two weeks. On June 7, unemployment had reached 12.99 percent. At the same time, in the nationwide lockdown last year, unemployment had crossed 24 percent. In such a situation, if you have also lost your employment, then you can get unemployment allowance under a scheme of ESIC. This scheme is Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana (RGSKY).

What is RGSKY?

This scheme giving unemployment allowance is being run since the year 2005. In this, if a person was covered under the Employee State Insurance Scheme, then he is given financial help when he becomes unemployed.

In the form of financial assistance, 50 percent of the income is given in the form of unemployment allowance. This assistance is given for a maximum period of 2 years.

Often in hospitals, from health facilities to vocational training and skill training are also provided in case of factory or company closure or layoffs. In ESI hospitals and dispensaries, health facilities are provided to the insured person and his family till the period of unemployment allowance. Also, ESIC bears the cost of training and upskilling such as fees and travel expenses.

However, there are certain conditions in this.

When will you get unemployment allowance?

Under the ESIC scheme run by the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment, the benefit of Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana is given. This scheme is for persons already covered under ESIC.

Unemployment Allowance: ESIC, while sharing the information of this scheme on its Twitter handle, has told that in what circumstances this scheme can be taken advantage of.

Under the ID Act, if the ESIC insured person loses his job due to retrenchment or factory closure, then he is eligible for unemployment allowance.

The insured person has to apply for unemployment allowance in the branch office. The branch office scrutinizes the claim of this application and forwards the application to the SRO or RO.

After the approval of the RO / SRO, the branch will make the payment to the applicant.
