The government hopes that this step will increase domestic production of oilseeds and reduce dependence on additional imports. However, experts believe that the idea of ​​1960s vintage may not produce better results today.

Giving information, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that oilseeds seeds will be given free of cost for Kharif (summer) crops starting from the month of July in about one-third of the districts of the country. . Thousands of high-quality packets will be given to the farmers.

According to the money control news, the government is giving around 800,000 soybean seed mini kits and 74,000 peanut seed minikits to increase the production of oilseeds.

How far the rates have increased

According to the one-year data of the Consumer Affairs Ministry, the prices of edible oil have gone up by 60 per cent. The average price of one liter mustard oil has increased to Rs 170 in May, which was Rs 120 in the same period last year. Similarly, the prices of groundnut oil, soya oil, palm oil, and sunflower oil are at high levels for the past decade.

Let us tell you that the government is aiming to sow oil in 6.37 lakh hectare area under oilseeds in the upcoming kharif season starting from July this year. It is expected to produce 1.2 lakh quintal oilseeds and 24.3 lakh quintal edible oil.

Who will benefit

Soybean seeds will be distributed at a cost of Rs 76.03 crore for inter-cropping in 41 districts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana and Chhattisgarh. This will sow oilseeds in 1.47 lakh hectares. In addition, soybean seeds with a cost of Rs 104 crore will be distributed to eight states, which include 73 districts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat. These states will cover an area of ​​3,90,000 hectares.

Mini-kits of about 8.16 lakh seeds will be distributed in 90 districts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The area under cultivation here will be 10.06 lakh hectare.
