Central employees will get 4% more DA
In a Cabinet meeting chaired by PM Modi in March 2020, the Central Government employees and pensioners were given additional installment of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) from 1 January 2020. The Finance Ministry has informed that there will be an increase of 4 percent over the existing DA 17 percent.
Government will bear the burden
Combining both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief, the government will incur an annual burden of Rs 12,510.04 crore, compared to a total burden of Rs 14,595.04 crore in FY 2020-21. (January 2020 to February 2021, ie 14 months) This decision is expected to benefit about 48.34 lakh central government employees and 65.26 lakh pensioners.
Disabled allowance will also continue
In the last week of December 2020, the Modi government also announced to continue Disability Compensation for all employees.
