Dowry Case A unique incident has come to light in Gurugram, Haryana. A young girl Chanchal from Bhangrola village was married to Mohit from Judaula village. On the wedding night, when the baraat (wedding procession) arrived, the groom’s family demanded 51 lakh rupees and a Fortuner car as dowry. When the girl’s family refused, the marriage was called off.

Groom demand: On the night of 25 February, the marriage procession of Chanchal, a resident of Bhangrola, came from Judaula village. She was to be married to Mohit. At 2 o’clock in the night, when the rituals were being performed at the door of the marriage palace, the boy’s family demanded 51 lakh rupees and a Fortuner in dowry. The girl’s family got angry. The marriage was called off.

The groom and his family members were made to sit. The dowry money was demanded back. A solution was found in the panchayat of both the villages throughout the day on Wednesday. The boy’s family had to return 73 lakh rupees. To raise this much money, the land and plot had to be mortgaged on the spot itself. After 15 hours, the marriage procession returned without the bride.

After the solution in the panchayat of both the villages on Wednesday night, a copy of the written agreement was handed over to the Kherki Daula police. Before this, in the presence of the police, talks went on for several hours between the two parties. According to the copy of the agreement, the girl’s father, Seva Ram, a resident of Bhangrola, said that his daughter Chanchal’s marriage was fixed with Mohit, a resident of Judaula village.

The wedding was on 25th February. The boy’s family reached Bhangrola village in the evening, but the wedding procession arrived at the marriage palace at 2 am. When the wedding procession was standing for the rituals of neem chadhai and warfer, Mohit’s uncle pushed the women. He said that one crore rupees were needed, otherwise the wedding procession will return.

The girl’s family tried to convince the groom’s family for a long time, but they were not listened to. The village sarpanch also folded his hands. According to the girl’s father, he had sent the marriage invitation for his daughter on 23rd February. In this, he had given a Brezza car in dowry along with household items. The family was shocked by the sudden demand of the groom’s side. When they did not agree, the marriage was broken.

The groom’s side paid the amount by mortgaging land and plot

After breaking the marriage, the girl’s family stopped the groom and his family in the marriage palace itself. They demanded the return of the Brezza car and the money given in dowry. The villagers told that the girl’s family had spent more than Rs 70 lakh on the wedding.

On Wednesday, a panchayat of Bhangrola and Judaula villages was held. It was decided that the people of the boy’s side would return Rs 73 lakh to the girl’s side. Since the boy’s side did not have the money, they had to enter into an agreement for a plot and a house. This amount was given by Manoj Yadav, a resident of Sadharana.

Mohit’s family mortgaged four kanal land with Manoj in Fazilpur Badli and a two-storey house on a 220-yard plot in Judaula village. According to the police, the groom Mohit is studying MBBS from a private institute. Chanchal is doing Junior Basic Training (JBT).

Chankal’s father is a constable in Delhi Police and is retired from the Army. Kherki Daula police station in-charge Inspector Virendra said that there was information about an altercation between the boy and girl’s side in Bhangrola. The police team reached the spot. A written agreement has been reached between the two sides.
