Nitin Gadkari: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed to introduce flash-charging based electric articulated bus system on highways being built in various parts of the country. Its aim is to strengthen public transportation in all the cities of India. Gadkari mentioned this in The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) 24th Darbari Seth Memorial Lecture.
He said, it is very important to change the public transport system in the country. I wish to create a new public transportation system in the new highways connecting cities.

The flash-charging electric bus system will be used in automatic fast-charging stations built at bus stops. This will charge the batteries quickly while the passengers board or disembark. This will eliminate the need to stop for long at the bus depot for charging, so that buses will continue to run continuously on the busiest roads. Hitachi Energy and Siemens have jointly developed it for high-capacity bus routes.
Bus fares will be reduced by this much
Gadkari also said that the cost of this new bus system will be less than metro buses, while the fare will be up to 30% less than diesel-powered buses. He said that this electric bus system will work as a fast and economical option on highways like Delhi-Dehradun, Bangalore-Chennai and Delhi-Jaipur and it will also be good for the environment.
Specialty of Flash Charging buses
Ultra-fast flash charging technique is its biggest feature. With this, a distance of up to 40 km can be easily covered with just 15 seconds of charging.
Its second biggest feature is that more and more passengers will be able to travel in AC. It will have a seating capacity of 135 passengers. This means that the journey will be easy and there will be no problem of crowd. There will be reserved seats for Divyang passengers in the bus and there will also be assistants for them.
Separate counters for tea and coffee will also be made in the bus. This will not cause much trouble to the passengers in long distance travel.
