GST on medicines for Covid-19 can provide relief, GoM report reaches the government

There is a hope of getting relief from GST on all the medical goods used in the treatment and prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because the Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted for revision in its tax rate has submitted its report to the government.



There is a hope of getting relief from GST on all the medical goods used in the treatment and prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because the Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted for revision in its tax rate has submitted its report to the government. This group of ministers was constituted in the meeting of the GST Council on 28 May and it was asked to submit its report by 8 June. The group had to decide what should be exempted from GST for medicines, equipment and all materials, including PPE kits, masks and vaccines, used to treat and prevent the Covid 19 pandemic.

Let us inform that at present 5 percent GST is levied on the Covid Vaccines being made in the country. The same is 12 percent tax on Coronavirus medicines. In the meeting of the GST Council in May, the Covid pandemic was discussed in detail and 7 important decisions were taken in it. In these, it was decided to give exemption to the states on import of medical equipment regarding Covid from abroad. According to the Finance Minister, IGST has been exempted till August 31, 2021 on supplies related to free Covid.

Discount on like items

The Center has already given exemption from customs duty and IGST, medical grade oxygen, PPE kits, oxygen concentrators, oxygen canisters, filling systems, storage tanks, ventilators, compressors, among other similar items. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and submitted the report. This report of the Group of Ministers of the states will now be considered in the next meeting of the GST Council. The next meeting of the GST Council may be held soon.

Covid dawa ke rate

Exemption or rates from GST on medical grade oxygen, oxygen-delivering devices like heart rate pulsators, hand sanitizers, concentrators, ventilators, PPE kits, N-95 and surgical masks and temperature gauges in the treatment of Kovid patients. Was asked to consider the reduction in Apart from this, the group was also asked to give its suggestions regarding relief from GST on Kovid vaccine, medicines and test kits used in the test of corona virus.

Apart from the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, the group includes Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Goa Transport Minister Mauvin Godiho, Kerala Finance Minister KN Balagopal, Odisha’s Niranjan Pujari, Telangana’s T Harish Rao and North State Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna is involved.
