The deep depression over the South Andaman Sea and the Strait of Malacca is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours. As the system moves westward, strong winds, high waves, and heavy rainfall are expected in several states.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the southern and coastal states in the coming days. Tamil Nadu may experience heavy rain between November 25th and 27th, and another heavy spell between November 28th and 30th. Heavy rain is expected to continue in Kerala and Mahe until November 26th.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to experience heavy rainfall on November 25 and 29, with very heavy rainfall warnings issued between November 26 and 28. Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on the east coast are expected to experience heavy rainfall on November 29, which may intensify further on November 30.

If this system develops into a cyclonic storm, it will be named ‘Senyar’, meaning “lion.” This name was suggested by the UAE.

The IMD has issued a warning stating that strong winds with speeds of up to 40–50 kmph are possible. Thunderstorms and heavy seas are likely to affect several coastal areas, leading to waterlogging, localized flooding, and traffic disruptions.

The administration has appealed to the people living in coastal and affected areas to remain alert and keep an eye on the updates of the Meteorological Department.
