Heavy Rain Alert: Heavy rain, dense fog, and severe cold are forecast for many parts of the country. Cyclonic circulation could lead to dangerous weather conditions in many areas.
Heavy Rain Alert: There are signs of major upheaval in the country’s weather and a warning has been issued of dangerous conditions in different parts. A Western Disturbance is active in the form of Cyclonic Circulation at the lower and middle Tropospheric level in Jammu and adjoining areas. At the same time, another cyclonic circulation is present in the lower Tropospheric in Tripura and the adjoining Bangladesh region. Along with this, the Subtropical westerly Jet Stream is effective in North India at a speed of about 130 knots at an altitude of 12.6 kilometers, which is making the weather more dangerous.
Due to these systems, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected at many places in Tamil Nadu from January 8 to 11. Extremely heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for isolated areas in Tamil Nadu on January 9 and 10. Heavy rain is also expected in Kerala and Mahe on January 10.
The situation in North India may become more serious due to fog (Dense Fog Alert) and cold (Cold Wave Alert). Dense to very dense fog is likely in the morning hours from 8th to 10th January in Chandigarh along with Punjab and Haryana, and dense fog may persist at some places from 11th to 14th January. There is a warning of dense to very dense fog in many areas of Uttar Pradesh on 8th January. Very dense fog is likely in Eastern Rajasthan from 8th to 10th January and very dense fog is likely in Western Rajasthan on 8th January.
Dense morning fog is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, and Madhya Pradesh until January 10. Fog is expected to persist in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Bihar until January 12. Fog is expected in Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal until January 8, and in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim until January 9.
The cold wave could reach dangerous levels in many states. A severe daytime cold warning has been issued for eastern Rajasthan on January 7th and 8th. Cold wave-like conditions could develop in Uttarakhand, Punjab, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi (Delhi NCR Weather Update), Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, and Rajasthan from January 7th to 12th.
Regarding minimum temperatures, it is predicted that there will be no significant change in northwest and northeast India. In central India, minimum temperatures may gradually increase by 2 to 3 degrees over the next three days. In eastern India, no significant change is expected for three days, followed by a slight increase of about 2 degrees.
