Heavy Rain Alert: Cyclonic circulation has become active, which could lead to significant weather changes in many parts of the country. Rain and snowfall are expected in mountainous states, while dense fog (Dense Fog Alert) may prevail in the plains.
Heavy Rain Alert: Several weather systems are active in different parts of the country, due to which rain, snowfall, fog and cold may be seen in the coming days. According to the Meteorological Department, a subtropical westerly jet stream is present over North East India, in which winds are blowing at a speed of about 130 knots at an altitude of 12.6 kilometers. Apart from this, an upper air cyclonic circulation is also present at lower levels in the South East Arabian Sea and the adjoining South Kerala region.
The Meteorological Department has stated that a new and weak Western Disturbance could affect the Western Himalayan region from December 27, 2025. Due to this weather system, scattered light to moderate rain and snowfall (Snowfall Alert) is expected in Jammu and Kashmir (Kashmir News), Ladakh, and Muzaffarabad between December 27 and 30. Similar weather (Heavy Rain Alert) is expected in Himachal Pradesh on December 28 and 30, and in Uttarakhand on December 29 and 30.
Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of up to 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are expected at isolated locations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from December 27 to 29. In addition, warnings have been issued for dense fog in several states.
Dense to very dense fog is expected at many places in eastern Uttar Pradesh during the night and morning hours until December 28th, while fog may persist in some areas between December 29th and 31st. Fog is expected in western Uttar Pradesh until December 28th. Fog is expected in Punjab until December 27th, in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Muzaffarabad until December 28th, and in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until December 29th.
Dense fog warnings have been issued for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi (Delhi NCR Weather Update) from December 27 to 29. Fog is also expected in Bihar from December 25 to 29, Odisha until December 29, Assam and Meghalaya until December 29, and some other northeastern states on different dates.
A cold warning has also been issued. Cold wave conditions are likely to develop in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan between December 25th and 27th. Minimum temperature forecasts suggest temperatures in northwest India could drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days.
